However, in an ever-changing, increasingly complex health and social care environment, individuals often face difficulties in understanding own duties and responsibilities. This study has explored how issues can be managed by providing quality services to older adults in the United Kingdom.
From various researches, it is found that older adults require specific attention and guide. Different organizations from the private sector to the government sector took a forward step regarding such an issue. The title of the research is Analyzing the key responsibilities of Healthcare practitioners in promoting and improving care services for older adults. This could be easily achieved upon the implication of several health centers and awareness among the health practitioner . The relevant questions that arises is that how can a healthcare practitioner deal with older people? What are the responsibilities that a practitioner should follow for better care? How can be the responsibilities could be accessed easily? How can be the health issue of older adults can be monitored?
All over the world, health care for older adults is a major problem, which every organisation or the country is facing. Many research articles have claimed that the health practitioner or the nurses should provide effective guidance in the treatment of older adults. Many claimed that there is at 40% of false practices occur. Various sources from articles confirmed that there is regular false practice and guidance is the treatment of older people. About 15% of the people suffer from misconduct and behavior of the health expert. The main reason for the research is to provide the necessary knowledge and practice that a health expert or the practitioner should possess regarding treating an older adult. Every health expert should deal with, a positive attitude towards their prior responsibility
Many research confirmed that there is a gradual decline of the health issue in previous times. Researched article confirmed that about 15% of older people withdraw the treatment procedure because of less guidance and attention that must be furnished from the relevant authority. About 10% of older adult claimed to false beliefs and cheatings that were done by the health expert. Majority of them claimed about the poor practice and relevant services that a health centres or health care should possess. Many researched articles that were done through survey convey that the health care practitioner from hospitals did not furnish their job correctly and could not attentively monitor the patient. They leave the patient and at the time of emergency, they show a negative attitude about their job. In the case of private services, the attendee showed extra care and attention, neglecting their responsibilities however only for the services they get. Researched article claimed that the practitioner always tend to adapt the private services in spite of their duties. Different researched claimed that about 1% of older adult dies to loss of extra guidance and care that is required in case of an emergency case
Participants of this research have been the older adults across the United Kingdom. Besides, health care professionals have also been included as participants of this research. Main objective of this research is to explore the key responsibilities of health care practitioners in maintaining service quality for older adults. Consequently, both health care services provide and service users have an important stake in this research. Involving only one party could have generated biased results regarding the status of health care practices for older individuals in the United Kingdom. Apart from this, recent journals and articles have been included as a source of information for this research
Data Collection Methods
Data collection method is one of the key players of research activities, as it has considerable stake on quality of outcomes. Hence, it is evident that one has to select the data collection method carefully to ensure the collection of authentic and relevant information. In the case of the present research, three different types of method have been employed for this purpose. For the health care professionals, an interview has been arranged to understand their perspective towards older adults’ health care. The interview has provided information regarding their understanding of own duties and responsibilities. On the other hand, a survey has been arranged for older adults of the United Kingdom to identify the quality of current care services. This survey has been beneficial in understanding service providers’ attitude towards the service users. Another data collection method that has been applied in this research is a literature review, which acts as an effective way for the collection of secondary data. Recent journals and articles on the research topic have been reviewed to gather theoretical information. Reviewing recent journals and articles provides the opportunity of understanding gradual changes regarding particular phenomena.
Data Analysis Methods
After proper collection of data, a generalized analysis is required for desired outcomes. Selection of improper method or idea can lead to false practice or wrong interpretation of researched data. In the present research, two different types of data have been involved. For primary quantitative data, different survey and their statistical analysis were performed. The data, which was gathered through a survey, is used to make graphs and charts. However, this statistical method has been used as a beneficiary record while dealing with the research conclusion. Besides, the survey data extracted through multiple interviews has made the research perspective. Thematic analysis has been widely used in the literature review so that it could be analyzed more effective. Different themes have been generated based on mutual understanding for implanting a global older adult care scenario.
Key Findings
From the research, it has been identified that both the society and the healthcare practitioners sometimes ignore older people. Their needs and requirements are kept secondary when compared to the younger patients. It must be understood that there are a number of barriers and healthcare system failures that prevent the doctors and healthcare practitioners from providing sufficient care to the older people in healthcare institutions. Some of the barriers identified were the poor system integrators and the inability of the elderly to access the services. This has been especially true for those whose movement has been limited. There were certain facilitators that have been identified as well. These facilitators included the family focused care and the community building practices that focused on improving the healthcare facilities that have been given to the older people in the society. From these findings, certain key recommendations can be made as well. The primary barrier is the complex system of healthcare, which makes these people to opt for home services. Thus, recommendations can be made to reduce the complexities that are involved in the system.
Relevance to Current Literature
The older adults in several parts of the world have been subject to functional disabilities and illness that make them require intensive care and medical treatment. However, in recent years it has been identified that due to system errors and inability of the government to set up relevant infrastructure, healthcare practitioners are unable to provide certain services that are very essential to treat chronic illness. The Literature too accepts this finding. However, the Literature has not been able to identify the infrastructural disabilities that exist within the system. The Literature rather stressed on the Social aspects of the problem. One of the major problems is the inability of the people to recognise the fact that healthcare services are not reaching the elderly people. One of the main reasons is the social outlook of the people. In certain societies, elderly population live all alone. They do not have the support of their children to help them overcome the difficult phase of their life. The findings have analysed these aspects and identified some of the key faults that are th
ere in the system that is not allowing the healthcare practitioners to take care of the elder population.
The findings have claimed that community building in the local level should be the primary focus of the individuals at present. The community building does not only mean bringing the elderly population together. It aims at understanding the needs and the requirements of the elderly population and implementing them in the healthcare practices. Sometimes these people do not get proper treatment. Some of the people in the category are not able to understand the healthcare problems that they are facing. Under such conditions community building would help them to get themselves checked on a regular basis. Community based practices would help to give healthcare facilities to even to the poorest sections of the society at very low cost on the part of the government. Further, there needs to be proper communication and coordination among the community members and the healthcare practitioners. The government can invest a hefty amount of money on these practices but if they are not aware where this money is being spent then it can completely become waste.
The findings of the research have identified some of the infrastructure faults and barriers that is universally true. For instance, if an individual of 80 years old is in need of a cataract operation then it needs to reach to the hospital. Ambulance facilities thus can be introduced not only for emergency purposes but also for those individuals who are in actual need of it. Lack of communication is one of the primary sources of frustration for the people operating in the healthcare industry. There needs to be a communication among the practitioners that are treating the patient. These communications should be documented so that all the doctors that are treating them know the medical history of the patient. In certain situations, the primary healthcare practitioners do not have the test results of the patients. The delay causes harm to the healthcare services that needed to be provided. The findings of the research can help to understand certain problems that are taking place in all parts of the world.
To conclude, it must be identified that healthcare practitioners are responsible for promoting healthcare services among elderly people. The people of older ages are sometimes not aware of the treatments that they should be getting. Under such circumstances, it becomes the duty of the medical practitioners to prescribe the treatment to the people. The services offered to the elderly should be custom made for their needs alone. Further, the barriers that have been identified should be analysed and strategies should be made to overcome these barriers effectively.
